Green Giveaway: Until Kara Organic Cotton & Wool Crib Mattress Valued at $299!
**update** This contest is now closed.
Last year in our Earth Day Issue I had the opportunity to review a wonderful company, Until Kara. We even swagged one lucky reader (pictured) with a gorgeous wooden rattle from this fabulous company. So when hip mom owner, Michelle, contacted me about getting involved in this year’s Green Week, I was ecstatic!
Until Kara is an online store featuring top of the line organic baby products including bedding, blankets, rattles, and crib mattresses. All of their products are geared toward building a natural nursery: a healthy nest for your little one. So where does an eco-conscience parent start when designing their natural nursery? With the crib, of course!
Why a natural crib mattress?
Here are your answers…
The Until Kara organic crib mattress, the foundation of your natural nursery! An infant will spend hours, months, and even years on their crib mattress and that is why it is so important. Here are the benefits of a natural choice:
Babies lose moisture when sleeping, the wool in an Until Kara mattress has the ability to wick away moisture and provide a more comfortable sleeping environment. Wool does not provide the damp medium needed for dust mites therefore it doesn’t allow them to thrive. Wool keeps cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Wool is the most complex, breathable fiber on earth, responding to body temperature by not overheating. The wool in the Until Kara crib mattress line provides an organic alternative to a chemical flame-retardant. The Organic cotton used in the Until Kara line provides a chemical free alternative to petrochemical based mattresses. What could be more pure?
Today we are excited to be giving away a natural crib mattress from Until Kara, valued at $299!
To enter, click over to UntilKara.com and check out this amazing store and product line. Then, leave us a comment telling us what is your favorite item at Until Kara.
AND…there’s more!
Because this is our Green Week and this is such a fabulous Green Giveaway, we want to hear how each of you are making an effort to add a little more green to your life. So to be eligible for this giveaway you must include in your comment the following pledge:
I pledge to {fill in the blank} in my personal effort to go green!
Some possible answers:
- Switch out the light bulbs in my home to energy efficient.
- Give cloth diapers a try.
- Feed my baby organic baby food.
- Use re-usable totes instead of paper or plastic at the grocery store.
You get the picture…even if it’s a small thing, like turning off the water when brushing your teeth, we want to hear it!

I already cloth diaper my youngest and plan to continue with the new babe.
April 24th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
My favorite project is the natural crib mattress. My son was diagnosed with sever food allergies around his first birthday and while we have gotten those under control, he is slowly developing environmental allergies now. We have been instructed to “clean up” his room and having a natural crib would certainly be a step in that direction. We have been told that an allergy to dust mites, which he is showing signs of, is a likely pre-cursor to asthma. And with two parents who played multiple sports growing up, we are trying our best to keep that from happening – and dealing with a budget…
I pledge to “green” my son’s bedroom and any activity he is involved in. I pledge to continue feeding him organic, local food and open dialogue with other mom’s about doing the same for their kids. I pledge to be less wasteful when I go to the grocery store and stop letting items go to waste. And I pledge to reuse my Starbucks Iced Tea cups!
April 24th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
I love the Until Kara crib set that is currently not available in yellow, so it would work for my daughter and any future sons I might have.
I pledge that I will freecycle or donate items that I no longer use to clear room in our landfills in my personal effort to go green.
I will also turn off the nightlight that I always forget to turn off, so it’s not on all day long when it’s just wasting energy in my personal effort to go green.
Thanks for the motivation!
April 24th, 2008 at 6:33 pm
I love the look of the new organic crib sets (in blue please!). It isn’t always easy to find cute organic bedding for our babes.
I pledge to unplug all appliances when they are not in use in my personal efforts to go green!
April 24th, 2008 at 6:40 pm
I think the awaresness about being green suddenly becoming popular is wonderful! I don’t feel as alone in this struggle to be green and do what is better for my baby while attempting to better and to conserve what is left of our environment. I already do the organic food, I am switching to cloth diapers, I watch the water consumtion like a hawk (to realize how much water a person wastes while brushing ones teeth: try filling some large litter bottles with water and brush those teeth with the water out of those bottles…you’d be astounded how much water is wasted.) The other thing I really like to encourage EVERYONE…is to go green with their cleaning products. We get enough toxins in our bodies as it is. Using green cleaning products is just as effective in cleaning and disinfecting without all the negative effects on us and on the environment. More and more brands carry the type of paint that doesn’t have the concentration of harmful chemicals that regular paint has. And those chemicals are released into the air and damaging are environment! Oh wow….so sorry I have gone on and on…..I really believe in going organic so its hard for me to not speak up about it. I am so glad to see that Peekaboo picks does such a food job of putting the word out there and offering options for the mom who wants to go green and doesn’t quite know where to turn. The only thing I haven’t succesfully done is switch to cloth diapers which I am doing today thanks to peekaboo…..for giving us a great link to a website with all kinds of different types of cloth diapers. I had always wanted to do this, I just didn’t know how to go about it. Ok I’m off to go order those “green” diapees.
sorry for the long comment.
April 24th, 2008 at 6:55 pm

I think going green is wonderful. I been doing small changes at home to make life better. Im going cloth diapers with my youngest soon, hoping to buy a compost soon. getting ride of the trash bags and trash can is a plus for me and start recycling. we are a middle class family and husband is in the us army. so going green is very expensive for us but i make the sacrifices.

I like the rattle sets and, of course, the mattresses. Jasper won’t sleep in his crib… maybe a nice organic mattress would entice him out of our bed?
April 24th, 2008 at 8:17 pm
The Organic Baby Blanket Set would make such a great shower gift. I’d love to win, since my daughter is currently sleeping on a crib mattress that we bought used. Who knows how old it is, or how much dust, etc. has collected in that thing. I pledge to use more earth-friendly cleaning products (biodegradable, non-toxic) in my home in my personal effort to go green!

April 24th, 2008 at 9:36 pm
I love the crib mattress at Until Kara and I wish I would’ve given green thought to the idea of a natural organic mattress before I had my baby…yikes, I hate the idea of what she is sleeping on now!
I pledge to remember my bags at all stores, to finish changing out all our lightbulbs, and to stop using so many paper towels/napkins at every meal with my daughter, in my personal effort to go green.
April 24th, 2008 at 9:44 pm

For as much as my son puts things in his mouth, the rattle is a top choice for me! And the organic blanket looks divine.
In our family’s continuing effort to green our lifestyle and home, I pledge to install Tank Banks in all of our toilets to reduce the amount of water we flush each day. Such a cheap and cheerful fix, don’t you think?
And I’ve got my eye on some ECObags to use for produce at the market.
April 25th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
We are already doing quite a few things: planning to use cloth diapers on our baby due in June, using cloth menstrual pads when my period comes back after the baby, composting, switched out our lightbulbs, supporting wind energy by paying more for our electricity (windtricity.com), bringing our own grocery bags to the store, and I’m sure there are other things. One thing I am working on is switching all of our household products to more green options. So I will pledge to eliminate all the bad chemicals in our cleaning products!
I have to say my favorite product from Until Kara is the organic mattress. Thanks.
April 25th, 2008 at 2:44 pm
In my continued efforts to be green I pledge to:
