Asics are a great brand. As is New Balance, Saucony, Adidas and Nike.
The best way to get a perfect fit in a running shoe is to go into a running store, get them to assess your feet (its free) and try on every shoe that they recommend. One will feel like the perfect shoe. You dont have to buy from the running store, just find out from them, which is the right shoe.
The right shoe makes a complete difference, but what is right for one person, is not right for another.
Right now, for running I alternate between a pair of Asics and a pair of New Balance. My walking shoe is a Nike. I go for the fit, not the brand.
